Poverty is very much like a prism with many facets. Take it to be the lack of material posession and money, even to hunger and the lack of spending power - of course, that's what immediately comes to mind when we talk about poverty.
The greatest disease in the world today is not TB, HIV or leprosy; it is being unwanted, discriminated upon, unaccepted, uneducated, excluded, unable to express self, despair, etc. They are of a spiritual nature. These, are all what constitute poverty. Poverty is the parent of revolution and crime.
We can cure physical diseases with medicine, solve financial problems with money, but the only cure for loneliness, despair, and hopelessness is love. Give somebody fish and you feed him for that day alone, teach him how to fish and you feed him for ever. Educate a girl child and you are educating a nation.
At "Your Bit Counts - YBC", we crave for a world without poverty. A world where every body matters, where everyone has a say and where every body is respected as a human being regardless of who they are or what they are.
Our vision
Our Mission.
All along, the millenium development goals have been our guiding principles. We coordinate support initiatives and projects geared at bringing sustainable solutions to some of the acute problems in certain areas of our world. Our mission was to engage in the development cooperation politics and try to see how we could make the world a better place to us all and particularly to some people in de developing countries.
But we realised that there are equally a cross section of the population in the developed countries which is severly affected by impoverishment. We then decided to be flexible and start with projects in the north- charity begins at home, they say!
Let's do our bit in this struggle against world poverty. We long for a world that poverty is minimised to the fullest. We encourage you all to play your part in this struggle because it's a man-made problem and has to be dealt with by man. Do your own little bit because its only through these little efforts that we can make a mighty change!
We seek to forster cultural diversity in society because we believe that diversity encompasses acceptance and respect. It means understanding that each individual is unique, and recognizing our individual differences. These can be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies. It is the exploration of these differences in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment. It is about understanding each other and moving eyond simple tolerance to embracing and celebrating the rich dimensions of diversity contained within each individual.
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are the world's time-bound and quantified targets for addressing extreme poverty in its many dimensions-income poverty, hunger, disease, lack of adequate shelter, and exclusion-while promoting gender equality, education, and environmental sustainability. They are also basic human rights-the rights of each person on the planet to health, education, shelter, and security
